Student Program Update
Student Programs puts together events covering student's most urgent concerns

June 24, 2022

Helping encourage and empower the next generation of veterinarians is a job we don’t take lightly. We pull on our experience as a network to deliver quality events that make the most impact in vet students' lives. We listen to vet student requests and feedback to deliver fulfilling events that make the most impact in their lives. We were able to reach more students than ever before through our virtual events organized by Dr. Elizabeth Hodge, Vet Student Program Coordinator, and Jess Bibb, School Recruitment Program Manager.

In March, students were invited to join Dr. Hodge as she walked through the process of how to pick the right practice. Students learned how to narrow down their priorities, how to ask objective questions during the process of looking for a practice, and how to find a practice that matches their needs. The audience came up with some great, relevant, and timely questions that led to lively discussions.

To kick off spring, we hosted an event in April where students learned some tips on making the most of their summer job or externship. Thoughtful engagement from the students led to discussions around connecting with doctors and practice staff during an externship or summer job and tools to build a strong mentee-mentor relationship.

As we head into summer we will continue to have more resources for those starting their first year, entering their final year, and everyone in between. Stay tuned for more information on our fall events including panel discussions with our veterinarians on topics from grades in school to planning externships, low-pressure NAVLE games, and more. If you are a vet student and are interested in our student initiatives, sign up for our newsletter for the latest information.
