Brittney is a marketing assistant at the VetCor home office.
While I mostly grew up in Easton, Massachusetts, my family was a bit nomadic. We lived in various parts of the state and even lived by the Gulf of Mexico in Florida for a year when I was fourteen.
I am one of four children, so the Melvin house was a loud and magical place to be. My parents raised us to be big dreamers, and I spent my childhood making amazing memories, always either exercising my imagination outside or with my nose in a book.
Growing up, we had a cat named Princess and a German Shorthaired Pointer named Chief. I first met Princess when I was a kindergartner when my best friend brought in her cat’s litter to show and tell. She was an absolute angel, but Chief, on the other hand, was a bit of a wild boy who enjoyed jumping baby gates and doing his own thing. Now, I have a rescue cat named Minnie who, though hesitant to show affection, is an undercover lovebug.
Although I love animals, I ended up in this field by chance. I graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2016 where I majored in English and minored in Psychology. I originally planned to become a teacher, but after passing my MTELs and observing in classrooms, I began to envision a career in marketing and decided to switch course.
I worked full-time while attending college, and when I finally earned my degree, I felt the freedom to pursue my longtime dream of moving to New York. I took a giant leap into the unknown and moved to Brooklyn with no job and no definitive plan for the future. That experience taught me that I was capable of anything and to always chase after the life that I wanted.
While in Brooklyn, I was able to grow both professionally and personally in a myriad of ways. During my time there, I began my first marketing role as a sales and marketing coordinator at a children’s enrichment center. That job introduced me to amazing people while allowing me to gain valuable experience planning and executing a marketing agenda. It was exhilarating to continuously see the fruits of my labor as we exceeded sales goals and grew a thriving program at our brand new location in the stunning neighborhood of Cobble Hill.
New York gave me so many memories for which I am grateful, but after a few months there, I realized it wasn’t my long-term home. After moving back to Massachusetts to be with my family, I found another marketing job and stayed at that company for awhile before I joined VetCor this past April. As a marketing assistant, I’m now responsible for managing our social media onboarding process, creating our monthly newsletter, approving practice ads, and ensuring things run smoothly by tackling Help Desk requests.
In my last role, I was the only marketing professional, so it’s fun for me to work alongside a full marketing team consisting of people who are interested in the same things as me! I also enjoy the positive VetCor culture and the lovely people who work here. It’s exciting for me to be a part of a company that's expanding every day. As I grow as a marketer, I hope to learn more about SEO, content and social media management, and brand development.
When I’m not at work, you can find me writing poetry, going for nature walks, reading, line dancing, practicing gratitude, and spending time with family, friends, and my boyfriend, Will.
